A got about 1/2 dozen socket 7 heatsinks collecting dust and all of them are better than the heatsinks that
comes stock with videocards and mb chipsets. I notice the stock heatsinks are all glued on so how do I take them off?

Also how do I install the heatsinks? Is there a good thermal compound glue particular for this job?

Put the card in a bag and put it into the freezer. When you take it out you should be able to pry the heatsink off.

As for a good thermal adhesive, Artic Silver Adhesive is the best I've heard of. To make it transfer heat better and make it easier to remove (although not as bonding) you can mix it with normal AS

Will putting the board inside the freezer damage it in any way?
Because ice typically forms around anything that I put in.
