How do you take a screen shot?

I know this probably isn't the best place to post this, but it won't get answered anywhere else...... I know that you can take a screen shot of whatever is on your screen, but I have no idea how. Can anyone explain it for me? Do you have to have additional software? Thanks guys!

what do you need to press alt for?

 

Paint is best if you dont have anything else to use.....ie photoshop

ALT + PRTSRC will take a screenshot of the active window only

without ALT, you get your whole desktop
