A friend of mine was ripped off of several thousand dollars by her Ex-boyfriend, and she's trying to collect . . . unfortunately the only address she has for him is a PO box.

What steps can/should she take to get her money back?

Well, i don't know how it is in the US, but in Canada you can't. You need to either deliver the subpoena in person, or do it via register mail where somebody else does it in person.

yeah i was thinking here in the US it has to be in person or registered mail (they have to sign for it). the easiest way to do it would be to call the sherriff and have them do it. should be 0 problem, they are the ones who do it around here.

You can just do it my regular US mail. But on the form that you mail him, the ex-boyfriend has to check a box and agree to "waive service".

If the ex-boyfriend doesn't waive service then you have to go out and hire a pro to service him. But then after he is serviced, he has to reimburse you for the service costs. So it is in his best interest to waive service.

I know this because I just got a part time job.
