How do you stop puppies from biting on you?

I have a 15 week old Golden Retriever that keeps biting on our hands. How old are they before this stops? Any recommendations on how to keep them from doing it?

I always tried popping the dog on their nose and saying no, when they would bite me. Worked for some, but not for others.

The puppy is probably going thru a teething phase. It'll pass...in the meantime, just give them a nudge when they do it.

Say no loudly and pull your hand away. Also, provide puppy with something to chew on (chew toy) to get it through the teething phase.

DO NOT HURT/HIT YOUR PUPPY. it's the worst thing you can do.

the best way is to, whenever they bite you, grab their snout and put your hand (thats already in their mouth) and shove it far into their mouth
and firmly say, "no bite". make it uncomfortable for them, but not painful, continue doing this for a while. after the first time say NO BITE at first, then do the process, again saying no bite at the end. guarenteed it works

withhold hand and attention whenever it happens. include scold command. doggies are attention whores...bite = no attention.. he'll get the message sooner or later.

Bravo, this is what all good vets and pet experts recommend, and it works!

At 15 weeks, I would tolerate it. It's puppy behavior. It's instinctive. Puppies have sharp teeth, get used to it. It thinks you are another dog in the same pack. It won't last forever. It's funny that you are concerned about a breed that was developed to be the gentlest mouthed dog in the world. As the name implies, they were bred to retrieve birds for hunters. I have read where this has been taken too far and some dogs don't grasp the bird well enough and continously drop it during retrieval.

Now, if it were a full grown dobie that was severing fingers and lower arms, I would be concerned, but only if they were my fingers and lower arms.😀

BTW, you need to post some pics of dog and hand.:camera:
