How do you sort and wash laundry?

While we're on the topic, what detergent is everyone using? I've been using Era because it's cheap, but I've heard that Tide is better for your clothes. Is it worth the ~$10 premium?

Purex, I think? it's the one that smells the best to me without going heavy on the perfumes.

I buy All free & clear because my son has serious allergies. He does his own laundry these days the All is surprisingly good on coffee stains, syrup stains etc on his white shirts (waiters can get really messy).

My own laundry, I toss it all in a cardboard box and wash it (cold-cold)when the box gets full.

I remember the days when all 4 of my children were still at home, and they all had multiple sports and activities. Those were the days.

I feel like the question is strange.. The garments all have washing directions and I follow those when I wash whatever I am washing.

So I sort what I am washing based on what the garment says it requires. That simple.

Mostly cold, but underwear, that kinda stuff, towels. Warm.

I dry everything on low heat. I am usually too lazy to use fabric softener.

Towels (all colors) - warm water, normal cycle, detergent + booster
Underwear/socks (all colors) - warm water, normal cycle, detergent + booster
Whites (basically just white shirts) - warm water, normal cycle, detergent with bleach and a bleach booster
Delicates (all colors, unless I have enough to separate white and dark loads) - cold water, gentle cycle, normal detergent although sometimes I'll use a gentle detergent
Sheets - warm water, normal cycle, detergent + booster
Blankets/Comforters - warm water, gentle cycle, detergent + booster
A fair amount of dry cleaning, usually 25-30 items a month (usually slacks and shirts). Probably bad for the clothes :/
