It would suck if you post (and refer to officials) IPs because you *think* something is going on - maybe rather stay with the facts and show them the pictures and screenname of the person having the pcitures online but NOT giving out IPs just by "guessing" they have something to do with illegal porn !!!
I don't believe the IP is dynamic. Over 3 days, I IM'd this guy the address to 3 different links to different files on my website. In each case, the Iowa address hit it back IMMEDIATELY - within 60 seconds. Same IP each time. The other IPs ended up hitting it shortly thereafter - a matter of hours, generally, and always the same files I linked to the original guy. Almost certainly this was just a case of forwarded links.
But the Iowa guy....SEEMS a static IP address. And, in any case, it wasn't JUST the IP I gave the FBI, but the exact timestamp down to the second the Apache log recorded it. Given that information, even if it WAS dynamic, they could find out what it was (when you log into your ISP with a dynamic IP addresses, they store the times you are logged on with it, and who the address was assigned to).
Of course, I also sent the absolute rock-solid-clear info and links, too. It's the FBI. I suppose I trust them enough to sort out what is legit and what's not.
IF they decide it's legit, it's not like they are going to bust the guy's door down over this alone. They'll take the info to court (what THEY find that makes it clear to them) and get a digital 'wiretap' and watch this guy's goings-on.
EDIT: And I didn't send them the "odd IPs" - the just one I knew for ABSOLUTE SURE was the guy in question.
