I am just curious because it seems to me there must be a way of protection.

If sending by USPS is there insurance you can buy?

What about tracking?

Here is a little bit of background for the reasons why I am questioning:

On two occasions I have gone to mail an MO and the slacker (Same @sshole mind you) that works for the Post Office around the corner from my work said that I can't buy delivery confirmation OR insurance for regular parcels....that it has to be priority mail (And a regular envelope doesn't qualify)

I can't help but think this is complete BS. I mean how can someone not be worried about putting an MO in a regular envelop (regardless of the amount) and then have no means of insurance or tracking??

So hows about it....am I just a lost newbie trader? Or am I right and there are better ways of sending and Protecting my money.

Thanks.

If you absolutely need security on a letter, then the best way is registered mail. You get a record of mailing, record of delivery, and optional insurance for a specified amount up to $25k. You can't get delivery confirmation on letters - those are reserved for parcels. Another way, although a cheaper alternative, is to put the addressed envelope into one of those rigid priority mail envelopes with the clear window and it would then qualify for all priority mail services.

You can definitely get DC and insurance on all parcels and if that clerk insists that you can't, ask to see his supervisor. That postal clerk needs to read up on the services the USPS provides. Granted, there are some branches that don't offer certain services (e.g. postal money orders), I haven't been to one that didn't have registered mail, delivery confirmation forms, or insurance as an option.

Yes there is. Just ask the guy at the counter for it

What about tracking?

Not really tracking but there's delivery confirmation and signature confirmation. Also, there's registered mail I believe. Once again, just ask at the counter

You can run a stop payment on it just like a check...but there's a fee.

Yawp. But we were all newbies once :)

I prefer using Paypal but of course, there's ways people can rip you off using that service too...

Thanks.

No problem ;)
