How do you secure a PCI card that doesnt quite fit?

I've bent the metal some on the PCI card to try and squeeze the screw in, but it just doesn't fit. My motherboard is lined up perfectly over the holes. My question is what do you do when this happens to you?

Which way doesn't it fit? Won't it go down far enough or is it a R/L problem or what? Let me know and I'll see what kind of cobble it will take to fit it!

The metal part of the card fits fine down by the motherboard, the place i'm having trouble getting it to fit is where its supposed to screw in. I got a tip from someone else to check to see if the case has an adjustment so I can move the slots. I'm going to check that before I get drastic. :D

How does the card fit in other slots? AKA is this a problem at just that one slot? or is it on all of your slots? I had a card in an old system that just didn't fit in one slot but worked in every other slot.

Try bending the metal in the right shape.
I had to do that once and it worked perfectly.
btw not the metal of your case.

I'm guessing from the your other reply that it isn't going down into the slot far enough to make good contact. If that's the case, on occaision I've had to totally straighten the back metal plate of the card and then re-bend it a bit farther up. Usually right where the 'U' shaped cut is for the screw. If you bend it at the side of the 'U' closest to the card, then cut off the little tab that's normally 'behind' the screw, you can still get a screw in to hold it in place.
On the other hand, if that's not it then you've just wasted another 10 seconds of your life reading this! :)

Sounds like the bottom of the metal bracket (on the card) needs to be slightly bent. (try forward first) The tip of the bracket probably isn't inserting into the case correctly & that is causing the problem.

The only other cause could be if the motherboard wasn't mounted correctly ( check the Plastic feet in between the motherboard & case)
LMK what you find.

i once bought a board who's bracket was screwed in with the wrong length extended from the card. so the sucker can't even fit. i think it was off by 0.5 cm which was really bad ;-)

i returned it.

take a pair of vice grips, and a pair of pliers. =) bend the card until the bracket can fit ;-)
