medium/large-sized packing boxes... do you use tape or do you do that thing where you fold each edge over each other.

and if you do the folding thing, is there any way to do it without getting the boxes all bent out of shape?

/has 20-30 boxes to pack up and no packing tape

edit: the boxes are for moving... I'm packing up my apartment, putting everything into storage for 2-3 months, then I'll be moving it to my new place.

i fold it if its only going to be packed temporarily and for a short haul. long haul, or long term, and it gets taped

go buy tape. its cheap.

depends on what it's for. for moving, folding is fine. for shipping..packing tape.

Not using tape is a good way to get your goods stolen.

Edit: oh for moving.. I'd fold them unless the contents are moderately heavy. Then at least tape the bottom.

boxes are for moving :)

I'm moving out of my apartment at the end of the month, putting everything into storage for 2-3 months, then moving it to my new apartment.

I've done multiple moves ranging from a few miles to cross-country. Tape your boxes.

And number them... keep a list of contents for each number. This is so much easier than trying to remember which box has your [fill in the blank here] in.

Four flaps.

Top, bottom, right, left.

Fold the left one down. Fold the top down overtop of the left. Fold the right one down over the top. Fold the bottom one down over the right. Tuck the left side of the bottom flap under the left flap.

Any trick to accomplishing this without creasing and bending that bottom flap as you try squeezing it under the left one?

You don't try and do it with all the other 3 flat. Fold them over each other as they are still semi vertical (45 degree angle or so). This way you don't have to bend the last flap.

You better get away from the keyboard, drive you ass to the store and get some packing tape and do it right unless you want all your sh!t full of roaches/bugs when you go to unpack everything in a few months.
