How do you scan an external HD?

Hey folks,
I have an external WD HD that I think might be on the fritz, so I wanted to run a low level scan of it.

What utilities should I be looking for to do this? I mean the stuff that comes with internal HDs won't read from USB, so what else is there?

Hi, If you can read it from WINDOZ you should be able to run most diagnostics and maintenance programs on it. From REAL DOS you wont have a driver for it. DOS under Windoz will have the drivers. Good Luck, Jim
