How do you say SQL???

I'm in a couple database classes at school and it seems that when referring to SQL they actually spell it out S-Q-L. However everytime I've heard someone say it in the real world they always refer to it as "sequel" like a sequel to a movie. Which way is the right way to say it?? I just don't want to look like an idiot when it comes time for a job interview.

"Sequel" unless you are talking about "mySQL" then it's "my-S-Q-L" because the OSS guys will kick your ass if you say it wrong.

Depends on who I am talking about if the person I am talking about it with says sequel, I'll say it
like that. Otherwise I usually just go with S-Q-L.

I've always thought that the language was said S-Q-L, but if you were refering to SQLServer, it is "sequel server." I am probably wrong, but I've heard it enough both ways that I don't think you will look like an idiot.

If It was during a job interview I would probably say S-Q-L because usually you are in front of management and not the hardcore dba guys. I don't know, that is my take on it. Although if you are talking about a specific server, I would say "sequel server" as that rolls better.

it *should* be SQL, but people say sequel. I usually wait for someone else to say it first, then I go ahead and use what they used 😉
