Do you spell it out S P D I F

or is say it a certain way. I just don't want to look like an idiot when I go to Radio Shack to get a cable.

I don't know how to say it but I always spell it out like that: S.P.D.I.F. anyway when I went into radio shack to get one about 3 months ago I just asked for a coaxial digital audio cable.. the one I got was a 6' orange cable w/ 24k gold plated connectors, ~$16 I think

I've heard the S.P.D.I.F. and "spy-dif"

I dont think you need to worry about impressing the radio shack employee, he probably doesn't know anyway ;)

Corp: Very true... I asked for one at da Shack once and i got the ever-informative "HUHHH?" So then i proceeded to ask for a digital audio cable, he led me to speaker wire.. Smart :)

TOSLink cable is also considered S/P-DIF format.

I usually call SPDIF "ess pee diff" or "spuh-diff" or "ess pee dee eye eff". In other words, whatever... :)

it doesn't matter how you say it; you can't possibly come off any more stupid than the radio shack employee.

You got ripped off. You know you can use regular old RCA cables? Don't worry about interference either, since with digital it's basically all or nothing at all. You'd be better off using some RCA cable and use the "digital coaxial cable" for your subwoofer.
