When I read about Prime 95 on there site, they talk about downloading information, running for days, weeks, or even munths, and periodically uploading information.

I would like to use it to test my CPU, but I would also like to know a bit about the program before I install it.

Since this is a program is an ongoing process for finding Mersenne Prime numbers, how do you use it to run short CPU stress tests?
Does this become clear after the program is installed?

All comments appreciated.

download and install it. the readme is very good - they added a special feature just for stress testing (basically, it tests stuff that is already known so 1. overclockers dont bombard their servers and 2. you can check for accuracy - if it is innacurate, it might not crash now, but one day could blow up all your data).

edit: a stress test < 1 hour is nearly useless. to get a good idea of stability, you should leave it for 24 hrs or so. :)

Thanks for the information.
I will go ahead and install it and give it a try.

When I said short stress test, I was referring to a 24 hour test.
However, your point about a 1 hour test being almost worthless is well taken.

Thanks again
