How do you roll your r's?

I've been trying to do this for a while now, and I can't. It's depressing.

Anybody got any tips?
 
I've always done it with...damn...I can never remember the name of it...that thing that hangs in the back of your mouth...
 
Yeah I can do it with that, but it's not the same.

What do you mean by keep it loose? Do I blow air through the teeth and in that process, keep the tongue loose or what?
 
Just repeat " I doon't have tha poowerrrrr"! Roll at the end and use old Star Trek episodes as your example of proper form.
 
Man, I've been trying for the last hour and I can't seem to grasp it. wikiHow has a pretty good explanation on it; I'm smart enough to read it but dumb enough to know how to NOT do it.

I put the tip of my tongue to the roof of my mouth, towards my teeth. I then breath out through my mouth while making the r sound and my tongue will vibrate back and forth producing the sound of a rolled r. I can't really explain it any other way.

Edit:
Clarification, you can't just hold your tongue to the roof of your mouth as it will just say there. As Ktulu said, you need to keep it loose so it can vibrate back and forth.
