How do you right-click and rename a file extension in XP?

I'm on an XP Home box and I want to rename file extensions once in awhile without having to use the "see filename extension" setting in Windows. Right now I'm using the dopey way, opening up Command and renaming it through DOS just because it's quicker, but is there an easier way?

Not that I know of, either the command prompt, or enable show file extensions.

cant you just click on the file then press F2 to rename it?

Only if you have show file extensions enabled.

does it work to type the name with quotes? it does for the save-as dialog in something like notepad.

Not as far as I can tell from my limited testing with a temporary file on my WinXP Pro desktop.
