How do you reset a power supply?

Finally got all the parts to my PC which I am rebuilding, however, my PS refuses to power up. I plug it in and flip the switch and the fans move for half a second then stop.

I've had this happen to me before and the problems seem to resolve themselves but this time my PS doesn't turn on. I've heard there is a way to reset the PS. Anyone out there know?

BTW: I asked earlier about using PC 66 DRAM in Duron PCs and everyone out there said yes you can use it. Well, no you can't. At least with the ABIT KT-7 RAID. There is no setting for HST-CLK just HST and HST+CLK. There goes 64Mb.

Did you press the power on button at the front afterwards? This quite normal my Psu will power on for two seconds then stop if I turn it off & then back on ,you have to press the PC power on button at the front.

Yes. I've tried everything from plugging it into other MBs, holding the power button down for 20 secs etc.

Tried to shorten the power-up-cable manually?

Is the cable in perfect order (e.g. cable-breaches, proper connection to the switch, etc.)?

Silly question but do you have the power button plugged into the motherboard correctly? If you plug it in backwards, its known for starting the system in sleep mode. Doesn't sound like the case but stranger things have happened.

Yes. Everything is in working order with the PS. I've plugged my old PS into the new PC and it works fine. The new PS just moves the fans for one sec then dies.

If you have tried it on another board and another power supply gets you going, it is time for a timely replacement from your supplier...

I had the exact same problem. The fans would turn on for half a second and everything would just die.
I belive it's a bad PS. I took a spare computer and placed it right beside the suspect one. I unplugged the power supply cable from the good one and connected it into the suspect mobo. Switched thw power on ... boots up fine. I then took the suspect PS cable and did the opposite: plug it into the spare computer. Wouldn't boot.

I would not suggest playing with the PS unit because there is a label that explicitly says that if the label is ripped it voids any warranty.

I'm gonna give the case manufacturer (Antec) a call tomorrow and ask for a replacement unit.
