How do you repair a bathtub??

I left town for 4 days and I came back to find the bathtub all messed up. My roommate cleaned the bathtub with the toilet bowl cleaner. Now it's all coroded. The surface is all rough and yucky. I don't really know what material the tub is made off. Feels like porcelain stuff. Isn't that the same for the toilet bowl?

Is there anyway to restore it to the original smooth tub? Anyway to even fix it? I'm renting the apartment. I might get charged when I move out if the landlord finds that the tub is messed up.
