i have another question... k i got tired of waiting for a reply (it only took 10 seconds for me to be impatient :D) and i decided to just try things out... i took my splitter, cut up the female connector, and connected the black/red wire to my fan... the other black and the yellow wire is just sitting there cut up... i tested it on my old AT power supply and it's been working for about 20 minutes... is it safe to say that it's not screwing anything up?

if it's safe, how can i take out the 2 unused wires?

The metal things that make the connection have barbs on their sides. You will need to compress the barbs with a needle-nose plier or something, so you can slide the metal thing out of the plastic plug.

I'm not positive what you meant about how you have it hooked up now. On a typical computer wiring harness, the black wires are ground, red is +5V and yellow is +12. If you have your fan hooked up to a black and a red wire from your power supply, it should be turning slowly, since that would be only 5 volts, and most (though not all) internal fans are 12V fans.

what would be 7v? yea i have it at 5 (i hooked up the yellow and black and it was really loud hah). i tried yellow and red (the fan has 2 wires connected to prongs, a red/blue one). i hooked the yellow to the red and the red to the blue, and it didnt start...

That's strange. If it will start at 5V it should start at 7V, and I think you did it right. The red wire on your fan is always the + wire, as far as I know. Hooking the fan's red wire up to +12 and grounding the blue wire to +5 gives 7V. If you have a voltmeter, confirm which are which... good luck.

Put it on 12V!!! Loud is good. My case doubles as my vacuum cleaner:)
