how do you remove the hardend thermal glue from the back of a heat sink?

I have a 32mb TNT2 video card that seems to be overheating. I removed the heatsink and I can't the hardend thermal glue off of it. I have scrapped and scrapped to no avail. Any ideas on how to do that?

When the Razorblade doesn't work, use acetone, or laquer thinner.

found this at the heatsink guide:
Scratch off the old glue from the chip as well as possible, and use some solvent to clean it off completely. Acetone is fine, if you have some. Nail polish remover will do, since its main ingredient is acetone, but it leaves an oily residue on the chip after drying. You can get this residue off with ethylen alcohol. Vodka will do; don't use whiskey, it leaves a residue, too . Tennmax (manufacturer of the Lasagna) recommands Toluene-based Carb Cleaners. These are very effective, but toxic and highly flammable.

Berryman B-12 Chemtool has toluene. It's a popular, high quality carburetor cleaner. Comes in aerosol with tube and also regular can. Pour the rest in your gas tank to clean fuel injectors. Is toxic, don't get on skin, hands, paint, .. use outside ventilation.

i use "motor spray" ... cause i have some handy from working on R/C cars, the stuff works great and isn't all too harmful to the skin...

Thanks for all the tips...I used some very fine sandpaper and acetone..worked great...still haven't checked out to see if the new the heat sink and super glued on fan works..but I will let you know..again thanks

Try Gumout (carb cleaner) its a really good solvent for most organics.
