How do you remove the formatting in Word?

Last night I accidently hit a series of key strokes that lead to Word displaying all the icons to indicate what sort of formatting I do (spaces, paragraphs) but it's an eye sore. I've looked through Word but can't seem to find how to undo the formatting icons.

Click the paragraph symbol to the left of the magnification in the standard toolbar.

you need to add the button to your toolbar.


click the arrows for your standard tool bar, and the format button looks like a paragraph symbol.

Press CTRL *
