How do you recover from a fall?

I will fall in front of people I know plenty of times, but then we all just laugh about it. But what about when you are all dressed up in a suit, and you are meeting complete strangers for something. It happened today and I just got up and we all had one of those awkward laughs. If you remain sitting down and just laugh like many do, you just look like an idiot. How can you recover from this? Or do you need to just get up and cut your losses?

AND I WILL SAY IT FIRST. THE BEST WAY TO RECOVER FROM A FALL IS TO NOT BE A CLUMSY LOSER AND FALL TO BEGIN WITH.

Since you've already committed to falling, have a device in your pant leg that punctures through the fabric, looks like a bone, and sprays blood everywhere. People will think it's a compound fracture and be relieved at the fact that you were just joking around.

Roll and end crouched on one knee with your hand pointed like a gun. Then say, "sorry i thought shit was going down"

From reading some of BradT's previous posts, I'd say he was tripping over his tremendous dong.

Curse at "the ghost" for pushing you. This way, instead of looking like an idiot, you will look crazy.

if I do one of those things where my foot hits the ground too early as i'm moving it forward and it causes me to stumble, i play it off by acting as if i'm doing an "air" layup.

Yes, if they think you're crazy, they'll fear you. Fear == good.

Oh and learn to walk. If you haven't mastered that, walk on your hands and knees.

You have to play it off as if the fall was intentional. There are many ways to do that, unfortunately all of them deal with imaginary situations.

I really don't fall too much, but I also live in the northern part of the country, and therefore, I have to deal with ice. There was a large wintry mix today, and the roads and tiled hallways were very slippery.

Probably one of those guys that wears pants below their ass. My wife and I saw one at the mall last week tripping over his pants as he adjusted basball cap.

I have fallen on ice before, and fell off my bike last year when I hit an edge of concrete wrong.
If I'm with friends, I'm more inclined to just stay on the ground and use laughter as my recovery tool. If I'm alone and people potentially saw, I just get up naturally and go on my way. If anyone was actually close, I'll say something that basically amounts too "yea im alright" followed by a chuckle, as I'm usually asked if I'm okay. If I saw someone fall as I was close, I'd ask if they were alright, and if they were able to make themselves laugh about it, I'd chuckle along with them. If they don't laugh, I won't laugh as to spare them the anguish, as falling for no particular reason sucks enough as it is. :)

I just start doing pushups like I got the sudden urge to get some blood pumping to my bodacious pecks. I'm thinking about following that up with a "'not now chief, i'm in the fuckin' zone' and walk away" move when I get up from it and everyone is looking at me. We'll see how it goes.

If you fall, just stand back up....

Everyone around can sniff out "playing it off" or making up excuses, and that just ends up making you look lame, and clumsy... instead of just clumsy.
