How do you receive files on AIM thru a Netgear RT314 router?
Let's say both people have a firewall or only u do.
Also how do you send files on AIM thru a Netgear RT314 router if both people have a firewall?
Your AIM should work just fine through the router unless you have closed down the port that AIM uses. If you are using default router settings then the port would be open. As far as file transfers go I can share a situation with you.
One of my friends lives in Dallas. At one time he was using Prodigy.net for his ISP and we could send files back and forth via AIM. He decided to sign up for Earthlink.net DSL access and ever since he switched we can no longer transfer files between us using AIM. The issue is something specific to his setup because I can send files to other AIM users.
Try to send files to someone else you know who uses AIM in an effort to isolate where the issue lies. If it doesn't work then start looking at the port settings on your router. If you still have the installation CD you should find some troubleshooting info there or you could go to Netgears web site for some clues.
