I have a cat that gets into everything.. I have always been told that spraying with a water gun/bottle is the best. But it seems that this cat still does it no matter how much I spray her. I have been told spanking is bad for cats so I have been throwing her in the shower everytime she's bad. She seems to calm down and stop the bad behavior, but is that the method i should use to punish her and get her to stop?

Um, are you catching them in the act? If you are, just stop them by giving them a small push, or a squirt of water. If you catch them after the fact, DON'T punish them... it's no use because they can't relate what they did before to what you're punishing them for now.

Only time will get them to stop... eventually they'll realize what they're doing is wrong and stop doing it.

I've always used a spray bottle that you can get at a grocery... Taking the cat in the shower is not going to do anything because the cat does not know why it is happening. You need to spray the cat -right- when the act is done.

I think positive reinforcement works great also, and keeps the cat happy. You can buy cat treats at your local pet store.

By the way, what is your cat doing that isn't allowed? Maybe I can suggest something more to the point.

I only punish her when I catch her doing it. She chews on electrical cables (I figured the shock would be enough, but I don't like the smell of fried kitty) and she chews on shoes (worse than my dog ever did)

Wow, those look retarded. I remember when this was the water gun to have. And,well, that was about it. There were only three super soakers available, and the biggest one was just too bulky and didn't shoot any farther.

5 inch hose with a deticated line from an engine of your local fire department.

Do note, you will lose control of hose if you do not have at least 3 men on it.

Yeah just spray the cat with a spraybottle from the grocery, turn the nozzle so its a stream of water and not a mist... Only spray the cat when in the act. Also you can clap loud before you spray the cat, that way the cat knows the water is coming if it doesn't stop the act. It'll learn to quickly stop the act when you clap loudly, and hopefully completely quit the act all together.

spray bottles don't always work. I did that and it turned out that my cats like water. Shower doesn't work either cause they go right in.

Kicking a cat in the face is just wrong. I bet you would love it if someone kicked you in the face.
