You're probably one of those people who pronounce "Monticello" as mon-t-eh-sell-oh.

i'm a native ny'er... we call it... Mon - Te- CHELL - o

That's because you know how to pronounce italian words.

If I ever heard anyone pronounce it vur-mi-sell-ee I would promptly unleash a flurry of devastating punches to their face. Everyone knows this.

when i lived in ny i remember monticello, ny = mon-t-eh-sell-oh, jefferson's monticello = Mon - Te- CHELL - o.

It bugs me when people say things like "vermiselli," "halapeenos," "eye-talian," and "jie-rows." A less irritating one that I still notice would be provolone/calzone (you're supposed to pronounce the E at the end of these words but no one in America ever does).

Man I had this same argument with my co-worker last week. In French I say sel-e, but he said it is che-le... he looked it up on wiki and said it is supposed to be che-le. I am going to stick with sel-e tho.
