How do you pronounce "uber"?

I thought it was pronounced "ooo-ber" but one of my classmates last name is uber. I pronounced it the way I thought and she corrected me and said that it is pronounced "you-ber"

btw...she's russian...if that has anything to do with the pronounciation.

ooo-ber.

Remember, in alternative grammar, the traditional values do not apply.

It's "ooo-ber", but the "ooo" part isn't quite pronounced like a long "u" since it has an umlaut over it. It's kinda hard to explain how it sounds, you'd sorta need to hear the difference for yourself. There's definitely no "y" sound at the beginning tho.

what a gay thread.

shut up. You wish it were gay.

Depends on if it has an umlaut or not. If it does, the proper pronunciation is along the lines of ueber.

Twenty'll get you thirty not many people even know what an umlaut is or what language this is from.

I know you are but what am I?
😛
Why don't you start a thread with more gravitas then since you have such a dim view of this one?

It's a name, so it's however the person wants it pronounced, doesn't have the "normal" rules of any language apply. If they say you-ber, then their last name is you-ber, even if the German word uber (w/umlaut) is ooo-ber.
