How do you pronounce the first name "Oktavianus"
One of my suitemates at college has this name, i want to call him up but i just need an idea of how to prononce his name so i dont make a fool of myself.

say "Octavian", and then just add "us" to the end. so basically the emphasis is on the ocTAvianus

at least, when you're just getting introduced. that will either be correct, or it will be the pronounciation most people use, so you'll either be correct, or he'll be used to people like you. :)

and once you get to know him, start calling him Octave-Anus. :D

Why don't you just call him and introduce yourself, ask him how to pronounce his name and what he wants to be called? Just because you don't know how to pronounce his name doesn't make you a fool, I'm sure he's had this happen before so I doubt if he'd have a problem with it.
