How do you pronounce it

i know it's not really the way your supposed to but i seem to say dayta when singular and then data when plural

Its one of those words that can go either way...

we should defer to STAR TREK:TNG's pronounciation and go w/ Day-TA!

sorry...didn't really mean to make it complicated, just sorta like when you say a piece of or like a bit of or something of that nature then say dayta, but otherwise say data...i don't konw i guess it is a little odd

and according to encarta what i do is entirely wrong, as singular is datum...my bad

Well, technically that's incorrect.

Datum = singular

Data = plural

I usually tend to say day-ta, but it comes out as da-ta every once in a while.

I don't think there is a right or wrong way to say it. Kinda like Tomayto or tomato.

I usually say day-ta for singular and dah-ta for plural, but I know that's wrong. Talking about map map datums, I say day-tum just like every geography professor I've had.
