so I was just wondering, that I might want to learn the piano.....I have musical experience in other instruments, I know the music theory, and all that stuff....

what I dont understand is, where do the fingers go on a piano? Is there actually a fingering system for the piano??

If I know that, I think I would be able to practice w/ taht, scales and stuff......

Middle C for the right hand and the next c down for the left. Your hand should be as if there is a small tennis ball in the palm of your hand

left hand is C=pinky, right hand is middle C = thumb

Playing the C Major Scale
Right Hand: Start with your thumb on middle C. When you play the 3rd note with your middle finger, move your thumb to hit the 4th note. Continue playing and use your thumb to hit the 8th note. Repeat.

Scales have many different fingering systems, depending on which scales they are. There's no "one position" for playing piano.

His wrist movement is going to end up all screwy with the tennis ball idea.

I'd pickup a beggining piano to explain the fingering etc.

start with C scale. thumb middle C. 1231234123. thumb is 1 once you hit 3 pull thumb under to continue, once you hit 4 pull thumb under once again. Then go back down. 13214321. when going back down the scale once you hit 1 throw 3 or 4 over to continue. Remeber thumb is 1 index is 2 ect. Then the rest of the scales are more or less done the same. Just your starting key and a few sharps and flats are diffrent. Or you could buy a book ;)

i borrowed a girl friends keyboard a couple weeks back and started to teach myself with keyboard tabs. i got the mario theme down and that gary jules song mad world, but i had to give the keyboard back before i went into anything else. of all my research(more like quick googling) i didnt really find any "proper" way to hold your hands(unlike the guitar) which imho makes the piano a much better instrument to pick up
