How do you play HL2 in off-line mode?

My password is rembered but I don't see any option for off-line anywhere.

Just disconnect your internet (or disable the connection or whatever), and it'll prompt you if you (re)start Steam.

I believe you have to disconnect from the Internet completely (remove the cable). When Steam starts up, it attempts to connect, and after seeing there is no connection, it should ask you if you want to play using the offline mode.

i'm pretty sure you have to disconnect from the internet then restart steam
