How do you play Dungeon Siege on a network with a Linksys router?

I have two machines on a network behind a the 4 port linksys switched router, the 41 job. I fixed IPed one of the machines to DCC with ICQ, but the other one's dynamic and that may be the problem, but when you play Dungeon Siege, I start one game Networked and Hosted but i don't see the game on the other machine when I start it up and open the program to where you select the game you want to join. Each machine can see the other on the netword. Both drives are shaired. Any idea what I need to do?

Not sure how new this game is, but do you have the IPX/SPX protocol installed? Older games (Starcraft, Age of Empires) use this protocol to play network games. Hope this helps.

Upcoming 1.1 patch is supposed to fix multiplayer issues...current news on The Zone mentions difficulties hosting games behind NAT. Setting the machine at DMZ host is the suggested fix. Connecting to non-NAT games should be fine, even if the non-host machine IS behind NAT.

Thanks Tall, I got a thread over in ATOT I snuck in there cause I wasn't getting any replies here, and got er going. I didn't have stuff checked off in the game setup right. The router wasn't the issue. nat is a different story, but I don't use that. I got a regular network with TCP enabled and file sharing. Don't even know if you need that but just TCP/IP works if you set the game up right. Will check back for updates to the game though.

Glad they got you going. I'm still unable to connect, either directly or via The Zone, to an MP game. :(

What do you mean by directly? Are you trying Internet and Zone, or are you trying over a network?

What are the specifics of your setup. Are you on a network, do you have a firewall or zone alarm type thingi, NAT or ICS or any unusual complications. I have not tried to connect via either of those routes, zone play or internet play, so I'm not sure what you have to do to get on. Let me go see.

Can you get to the zonematch log in screen and see a list of games being played. I just did that and can see games even though I didn't log in. There is a read me fine in the game folder you can find with windows explorer that has some stuff in it. If you can see the games you can probably play them if you enter stuff right.

Appreciate your comments.

Went through all that stuff last night. DMZ host, direct connect on broadband, etc. etc. Can connect, login to and see games in the Zone, but can't actually attach to any games.

Called M$ today. Supposedly the upcoming patch fixes SIGNIFICANT issues with Internet play. Gonna try the most recent beta patch tonight at their suggestion. A few other minor things to check, too numerous to mention right now. Saw one issue in TechNet that had to do with machines receiving their addressing info via DHCP behind NAT. Not directly on point, but close enough to maybe make a diff.

If we can get it to work tonight, I'll post the answer for everyone's edification.
