how do you play cd's using digital audio in winamp?

I have winamp 2.81 or whatever the version before 3 was. I like using that for audio cd's more than windows media player, but when i disconnected the analog audio cable from my cdrom to my sound card, it doesn't play anymore. Windows media player 9 works fine. Do i have to use winamp 3, because if so, I'll just give up.

Go to Device Manager, and to the properties of your CD drive, and make sure the "Enable Digital Playback" or similar is checked.

thats really odd, i have never used analog playback. i assumed it was just plug and play...interesting. make sure your audio device for CD playback is set to your soundcard, and not your onboard audio.
