How do you plan on getting married (for those that are non religious)

I was thinking of just a wedding banquet (as i'm chinese). This saves a ton of money. Of course there won't be a traditional western western dress but a chi pao instead. Rather than rent out a church and getting the bridesmaids dresses and tux rentals and pay for all thsoe extras, i think just getting the court documents and then having a wedding banquet makes more sense.

I mean i'm not religious so why would i do a church wedding? I think i'll just go with the banquet route. It just makes more sense. Plus from what alot of my close relatives and friends that are married tell me, spend more money on the honeymoon ;)

Yup, my girl wants the whole shabang...church, tux, wedding banquet(me chinese too)...this is gonna cost a whole bunch...i'm getting a headache already...thanks for reminding me jlee

We did it at a hotel. In the past we've both attended church but felt it would have been, at this point in time, silly to do it "under God" and pretend that the vows meant something in a religious context. Thank God her parents paid, cause it cost a decent bit of coin!

is your future wife religious?

to answer your questions, i'll probably get married however my future wife wants to... since i really don't care either way. if she doesn't have a preference, then i'd get it in court, and have a really good party afterwards.

My wife and I did at a Chapel that used to be a church. It is a historical landmark and they decided to fund it by holding weddings there. They will help you get a non-denominational Minister or supply one for you as a bonus.

Hehehe my arguement to this is more stuff for the new house! Weddings cost between $20K and 30K these days. A banquet might cost you $10K. Save the rest for more toys around the house! (no not those kind of toys! ;))

As for my future wife being religious..... NOPE!!! :D She's all for the banquet idea but I think she still wants the wedding dress. Last time I brought it up, she gave me a funny look when I said we wouldn't need to spend the $6K for her dress. hehehehehhe..... eh, if she wants the wedding dress that's fine. i just don't want the wedding ceremony thing.

neovanJust be involved in it. Plus aren't her parents paying for most of it anyways? Weddings: all the guy has to do is show up and say stupid things. :D ;)

We live in a county with a beautiful courthouse, french designer and oldest building West of the Mississippi still used for it's original purpose (read that while on juror duty). So we know where to go. Then a banquet at her grandparents' place.

I escaped the impending banquet by eloping. Actually, it was a "planned elopement" ;)

hehehehe, i can't get away with that. her parents are more traditional and i think my parents would want to 'celebrate' the occasion.

For my first marriage, it won't be very fancy. Invite the relatives and a few friends.

For the second marriage, she'll be in her early twenties and I'll be in my 50's so we'll have a bigger wedding with her friends and all my friends who I've been with over the years.

(it's kind of weird knowing my 2nd wife hasn't even been born yet)
