How do you personally define the term "nerd"

Is it anyone that likes technology?

People that are working as computer scientist, engineers, and etc.?

Funny...the other day I asked my 7 year old if she knew what the word NERD meant.

She responded "it's someone that's smart".

Overly interested and invested in a particular subject matter combined with a lack of social skills.

Pretty much this.

Growing up for me it was always:

Geek: Overly interested and invested in a particular subject matter. Very skilled in that particular subject and other similar subjects.

Nerd: Overly interested and invested in a particular subject matter. Very skilled in that particular subject and other similar subjects. Also is socially inept.

One who
- plays or played any trading card games
- plays or played any tabletop rpg
- wears a fedora and isn't old
- has a scraggly goatee or beard they refuse to shave
- has no idea how the people around them live, is out of touch
- wants to touch boobs (or dick) but has no idea how

This list is obviously not inclusive, and not all nerds share the same set of traits.

The way I always pictured it:

Geek: someone very passionate about a specific technical subject, like gaming or computers, electronics etc
Nerd: basically the same as geek, but more over the top, and perhaps more socially awkward. Richard in Silicon Valley is probably a good example of this. (which reminds me I think I'm behind 1-2 episodes I have to check)

Though I think it's kind of like hipster, there's not really a true definition. I actually sometimes call myself a nerd if the context is right, like if someone makes a really obscure reference and I actually get it. "wow I'm such a nerd, I got that".

Those games must also require the use of a 20 sided dice.

A 20 sided "die", if you're using the singular, which I presume by your placement of "a" in front of the "20" that you are. And why no love for the other polyhedral dice?

No, I'm not a nerd, I'm a geek. I have friends that are normal people.

Geek = same as an otaku. Someone who's obsessed with a particular hobby or form of entertainment.

Nerd = A more academic version of a geek.

Just look in the mirror.

Cam here to post that.

Instead I will post this:
