How do you paint shirts?

I am talking about a button down shirt, not a T-shirt. Say I want to make a design on it, which is not very complicated, and has repeating patterns. How would I go about painting that shirt? I have seen cloth paints at stores like Hobby Lobby, but I wouldn't know what to buy.

Silk screening probably. They're used for quantity stuff though.
