I'd just wrap it in paper to keep the thing from opening, then wrap it in bubble wrap and stuff it in a box or big envelope.

a book pretty much packs itself, but heres some further securationing of the book.
cut small triangles out of a stiff wide gauge cardboard.
affix triangles to the all inside conrers using a removable tape.
wrap in exactly 13 sheets of cling wrap, take a hair dryer to it to firm it up.
then apply a layer of bubble wrap, outside this layer of bubble wrap encase it in the leftover cardboard once this is finished take packing tape and start winding it around.

Way too much involved here. That sounds exhausting.

All i know is last week I mailed 5 books out that sold within 24 hours. When I packaged them I put them all in inverted Priority mail boxes and was called out on it. They didn't make me repack or anything but I was warned. Just FYI in case the same happens to you

I used to buy a pack of large bubble envelops from staples/officemax/office depot every semester and use those.

it says all over priority mail boxes and envelopes that they are only for priority mail.

using them for other purposes is theft. from the post office. which is a federal offense.

You beat me to it.. The USPS is kind enough to provide us with free packaging material and boxes. The USPS still does this, after running off of limited funds, and pressure to reorganize, budget cuts, etc..

Don't abuse it and ruin it for everyone else.

yeah, you can't use that for media mail

just get a large vanilla envelope, wrap the book in a little newspaper and stuff it into the envelope

its a book, it can't break

I buy the big padded envelopes in bulk for selling textbooks. It comes out to about 40 cents per book, which is no big deal really.

Technically Media Mail was meant for inter-library loans, the use of it by the general public is discouraged. Any item sent media mail can not have anything else with it. If you're shipping a book you're not even supposed to include an invoice, for example. Media Mail is commonly abused unfortunately.
