I was reading the review on anand about video cards and they said their card of choice was the radeon 9800 because it could be overclocked to pro, but I can't find a tutorial on how to do it. Will all brands of 9800 overclock to pro speeds? Also, any help on how to do it, or a website with instructions would be cool.

Download Radclocker. Go to your settings and there should be a clock rate tab. Move the sliders up and down. Or, go to omegacorner.com and get the omega modified drivers.

Definately worth it. If possible, try to get one with Samsung RAM chips (either 3.3ns or the 2.8ns, which are rare) over Infineon 3.0 RAM. The infineon stuff usually maxes out at 325-330 MHz, the 3.3ns Samsung RAM usually goes to 330-360, and the 2.8ns is the same stuff on the Pro card (if you get one with 2.8ns memory, which as I said is very rare now, you essentially have a Pro card).

You probably won't be able to cherry-pick a card, and you'll get one with random memory based on luck of the draw, but it's still worth it IMO. The 9800 is an awesome card, especially over something like your FX 5600.

Edit: uh, and to your other question. Overclocking the 9800 is very easy - just download Rage3D Tweak from www.rage3d.com and install it. Personally, all I install from rage3dtweak is the overclocking utility, I don't bother with the other stuff...

I got an open box 9800 at best buy for $202 out the door. It has the samsung 3.3ns ram. I'm now running at 432/360. I can do up to 450/375 but I have to run all my fans on high. 432/360 is nice. 6500+ on 3dmark03. If you can get the samsung ram it's a deal!

With quality settings you will notice a vast diffrence. Also with DirectX 9.0 games you will also notice a large performance diffrence. I got the 333mhz Infinon Ram and am sitting pretty @ Core 475 Memory 660mhz DDR . Not sure why my core scales so high except I have a 120mm Fan blowing on my Graphics card.

Replaced my fx5600 with an 9800 np. Double the frame rate on my system on all my games. Runs like a dream. Definitely worth the upgrade. On my FX5600 my scores used to be : V45.23 drivers.

3DMark 2003 - 2600
3DMark 2001 - 9000
Aquamark 3 - 17500
Final Fantasy Bench - 2100

BTW, on the Final fantasy bench does not matter if I put it on low or high quality. Score stays the same - 4500 with 9800np.

Not overclocked.

I think you are sure why it goes so high because that is the reason!

As to an earlier question, the stock speed of the 9800 Pro is 380/340.
