So I have 3 years worth of pictures so far...this is my current method. Using WinXP.

Have My Pictures directory under that divided by year. Under each year I have the Starting the date for the picks, like 04-13-2003 - Wedding Pictures. I take pictures every few days so I have a lot of directories.

Does anyone use any software that might better ?? or something to use keywords for searching??

Adobe Photo Album is pretty neat but takes alot to get used to and learn. I only dabbled in it so far and I know I have barely touched the surface.

I didnt like Adobe Photo Album at all.

The interface was wayyy behind the times, and it didnt do anything special. Plus, like stated above, it took too long to get used to and learn.

I need a more simple way for my computer illterate parents to manage their photos.

Edit picasa looks like a sweet program. I saw it demo'd on techtv a few months back and it looks awesome. It has a sweet interface and some nice features. To bad its not freeware :D

I also have a folder called Pics, every batch of camera downloads goes into a folder named YYYYMM [maybe a subject]. I prefer to have them organized by date first, sometimes adding a short subject name if there was a particular event of importance in the batch.

EDIT: I use Irfanview to view pics and just let it take over all the image file associations. That with a dedicated folder for pictures has been perfect for me.

I find if you're using just WinXP date your folders, but use XP's feature to put thumbnails on the folder itself...

i.e. you look at "June 22, 2003" folder name and u try to remember what u did then but the little thumbs on the outside of the folder make u recall "oh yeah that was the bbq weekend" (for example)

i find this works great and is easy...

on a side note: does anyone know the quickest way to rename all your pics?? i find it to be a pain, i have so many...and i hate renaming "img0045.jpg" to something more meaningful...

ahh... I have the absolutely perfect utility for organizing pictures. I have to deal with about 6 gigs of pictures a month, so I know what works. Right off the top, iPhoto doesn't. On the other hand, this handy utility is perfect. It makes small fast loading catalogues, and can integrate them into cds/dvds with built in backup features. This is what we I've been using for archiving with dvds. I keep 1 copy of each catalog (for a dvd it's around 30mb) on my local hd, then backup the images and a catalog copy onto the dvd.

It's by far the best picture utility out there, and it's readily available on popular file sharing apps.

Have all my photos under one directory called pictures. Under that are folders labelled by the event (i.e. 'Quebe', 'Vancouver', etc..) or if theres mixed photos of random stuff just put date in European form ( Year-month-Day : 2003.7.22, so that sorting by name will sort them accurately by date)

My 2000+ pictures are organized in the same manner that my website photo gallery is organized... By Geographical Region (Country/State/etc...)
