How do you organize and name your TV Shows?

I recently got a new TV Tuner for my HTPC (Hauppauge HVR-2250) and I just realized my recorded TV Shows folders are a real mess So I was wondering how the AT A/V&HT crowd organizes their TV Shows
I currently have some shows as (Ex: The Simpsons\Season 22\S22E12 - Homer The Father.)
Also what is a good way to archive my HDTV Shows (That is why I left the extension blank and also the fact that I have not edited yesterdays recordings yet:ninja:) I currently am using Handbrake to an *.MKV file but is there a better file format for HDTV recordings? For my SDTV recording I am still using the ancient AVI Codec Unless AT A/V&HT will tell me a better way (DivX as I actually paid for that program)

Thanks and sorry for the long thread

CLIFS:
1. How do you name and organize your TV Shows
2. Archive Format HDTV & SDTV
3. MKV(HDTV) & DivX/AVI (SDTV)
4.Is there a better format then what I am currently using
5. Thank You in advance for the help

I name them basically the same way as you.
The Simpsons\Season 1\S1E1

I then use media center master and let it grab all the meta data and it will then show up in mediabrowser as 1-EPISODE NAME.

Archive wise....i use x264 for hd and SD. Just different profiles for them. Same i use mkv for both hd and sd. you might see an improvement going to x264 over xvid for the same filesize. Give it a go and see if you do.

The Office\Season X\The.Office.US.S01.E01.Episode.Name.mkv

Is how I do it. Then I use mediainfo to get the info for each file for xbmc.

What profile do you use for the SDTV MKV files
I am using handbrake and I just gave it a go and the SDTV Show was about the same size as the HDTV file. I am looking to get around <200MB for a 21-22 Minute TV Show
Thanks

Download Sagetv and Batchmetadata tool (BMT) will record, categorize, get meta info for each episode and reencode all in a single step.

SMB://Server/Television/Show Title/Season XX/Show-SXXEZZ-Episode Name.Extention

Example:
SMB://Media01/Television/Dexter/Season 1/Dexter-S01E02-Crocodile.mkv

I just use the scene names for TV shows... similar to Abaez. They're also in folders like <Show Name>\<Season ##>\

Can it edit out the commercials? I already have SageTV so I will give that a try

i use megui, not handbrake. but you could use the same profile. What youll have to do it just go to size options and tell it to use a max size of 250mb or whatever you want it to be. itll encode and be pretty much whatever you told it to be. Then when you go to do HDTV just set the size to 600mb (what i use for ~22 minute shows) or 1.2gb (what i use for hour long shows...well 45 minutes of actual show)

Mine are as follows:

<Series Name>-<Season Number>-<Season Episode Number>-<Episode Name>.<extension>

So:
The Simpsons-1-1-Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire.avi

Unfortunately, my recording software does not save them in this format, and instead saves them as <Series Name>-<Episode Name>.<extension>, but I wrote a perl program to query http://thetvdb.com/ and lookup the season/episode numbers and re-name the file, which I have run daily automatically.

I might have to look at the Batchmetadata tool, as I use SageTV for recording. The reality, is that my perl program works fine, but if I can get SageTV to do it for me, I might as well.

Pretty much like everyone else:

Show/Season_Number/SXXEXX_Episode_Title.mkv (I don't transcode to anything other than mkv).

Example:

Code:
House/Season_7/S07E10_Carrot_or_Stick.mkv

For shows that didn't make it more than a single season (or less):

Code:
Wonderfalls/04_Pink_Flamingos.mkv
