How do you open a .rar file? I know it's a "zip file" , but PKzip doesnt work.

Yes, there is a program called Winrar. You should be able to get it at download.com. I think it's freeware, but I'm not sure.

I use XAce 2.0 to handle ZIP, RAR and ACE files without a problem. It's a small program which only does what it needs to do.

Thanks to Beast's linky, I now have both Winzip and Winrar. What makes winrar better for the average Joe like me? IMO, Winrar isn't as "universal" as Winzip. I.E. 99% of the time, any kind of large file you DL is "zipped" not "rared".

Winrar will not only open a .rar or a .zip it will also create in both fomats. I can also open other compressed formats like .ace files. In addition to all this it can take one large file and break it down into multiple smaller ones.

You guys are absolutely no fun.

You tell him .rar means *rare*

And it would be really hard to find a way to open it.
