The battery on my fossil blue watch just died, but I can't open the watch without using some sort of special slot tool that will fit on the watchback. I don't wanna go to a jeweler and pay $10-20 for a simple battery replacement. Nor do i want to pay $15 + shipping to ship it to fossil.

I'm sure many of you guys have fossil watches with the weird back.

How do i open this?

I tried on mine and failed. They're pressure sealed IIRC. I got mine 1/4th open then just gave up cause I was worried I'd destroy the back of it.

Go to your local discount store (Wal-mart, Target, K-mart, etc) and the jewelry counter. They usually have the tools needed to do these kind of batter changes, especially if they carry your watch brand. I was hesitant to do this initally, for fear they would mess it up, but usually, they know what they are doing, and can have a new battery in within 5-10 minutes, and its usually free (cost of the battery).

Looking at the back of mine, I tend to agree.

For nintendo and their special "star" shaped screws, you could of purchased a drill bit for about $2.

My local mom & pop jeweler charges about 3-5 dollars for a battery replacement & that includes the battery

Fossil watches have a rubber gasket that's really crappy and usually stretches out too much once you open the backing. When I took mine in, they used some sort of sealer to reseal the gasket when they screwed the backing back on. It should be 5 bucks tops.

Were you able to get this done? This thread reminded me I had a watch and I found it and of course the battery was dead. I have tried taking it to Wal-mart and a local jeweler. Neither was able to open it. I have to go to the mall which I will save for another day.

Target, kmart, and this jewelry store at a strip mall all said they didn't have the tool to open it.

Walmart said to go to a jewelry store, the jewelery store said to try Sears. So, I guess that is where I will go. I will update you in a couple days if I have any luck at my mall.

I went to Sears and the girls there couldn't get it open. They sent me to a watch repair place in the same mall. I went there and the guy was able to open it, change the battery, and seal it all in 5 minutes. Apparently, it must be really difficult to turn or gender-sensitive. Cost $10 to do.

If you look on the back, theres 6 or so indents on the case. There is a tool for this, where it fits all these groves, and you screw off the cap.

Or a vise and some small flathead screwdrivers work just as good.

You could have gone to the Fossil store like I said earlier and saved yourself the hassle

We've got one of the larger malls in the area, and there's no "Fossil Store". Is that like the "Scotch Tape Boutique"?

Something along those lines. It sells almost every Fossil watch they make, clothes, sunglasses, and whatever else they sell on their website. There's 2 in this area to my knowledge. There should also be some sort of authorized dealer link on their website I believe

I have honestly never heard of Relic before so I don't know. Their watches are kind of "trendy" watches that teenagers have. iirc, you're not one so you'd probably look better with a Seiko or a Citizen :)

http://www.fossil.com/CustService/StoreLocator.asp?Tier1=Help&ID=StoreLocator

That's a store locater and they also have a link to Retail Partners who sell their watches. Seemingly, the only stores that should swap the batteries out will be a watch store (Champs/Foot Locker certainly won't)

They list one for Dublin, OH. I have no idea where Dublin is. Just picked this one up on a whim at Sears the other day. Got it for 30% off on sale, plus another 30% for my son's Sears discount. Not sure if I'll keep it. It's got a 12 year warranty, and I'll probably only wear it once in a while. I thinks Sears sells it as Relic, so they don't have to price match anybody. Just a guess.
