How do you open a firewall port on a router?

Is there some switch or something on a router? My friend is trying to play starcraft and it asks that port 6112 be open and he asked me how to open it. I've heard of a lot of people opening a port for stuff like that but since I have never had broadband I'm wondering if any of you could guide me?

Thanks

On my Linksys, that's done by starting Internet Explorer, typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar, answering the name/password prompt, and then I'm free to go through the router's menus and set what I want, or view the logs, etc. It's quite user-friendly. What brand of firewall/router does he have?

Most liekly you'll have to forward teh port to the specific pc that needs it. Unless you have a seperate firewall box you probably can't just open the port up to everyone.

Have him read/download the manual and figure out how to get into the menus, and then you might see it jump right out at you 🙂
