is there anyplace online to view the procedures?

You officially (and nicely) ask a mod in Forum Issues.

They don't always have the time to change names, but if you ask super nicely with a cherry on top, sometimes they'll accommodate. The other option is to create a new account and ask that the old one be locked.

you go to social security office and it gets listed as an aka, also known as, you then take this to motor vehicles and get name changed on drivers license. you also have to notify anyone of importance, employers, etc.

i can't think of anything else.

You need an attorney and you go to court to do it. They usually pull credit/criminal/civil records and stuff to make sure you are not trying to skip out on unpaid bills and such. Once the court officially changes your name, you have papers to that effect and then you can go about getting things changed like your social security card, drivers license, etc.

Hey I'm allowed to misinterpret the post. I've been looking at newsprint all night. And on the upside, if people wanted to know how to change their nick, they now know.

Yep because a marriage certificate is a legal document and getting married is quite common.

I had my name legally changed when i was 5. No way in hell your getting my old name outta me though...
