How do you make your gpu handle x264 instead of the cpu?

Please don't tell us what GPU you have. It makes it much more fun to figure out how to achieve this goal

CCCP will never use GPU acceleration.

To use x264 on a 7900GTX, use a program such as MPC-HC with Cyberlink PDVD 7 codec as external filter. That is about as good as you can do unless it is in mpeg2/wmv format. Then you can use nV PureVideo within Windows Media Player

If you are using .mkv format it gets more complicated

Media Player Classic - Home Cinema

You need to use either h264 external filter or VC1 from PDVD, make sure these are DISABLED in internal filters so that it allows the work to be done by Cyberlink.

Also you need Makostra Splitter for handling of the .mkv file. This will demux the video into audio and video streams so that it can be utilized by the Cyberlink codec

You cannot do this on your Intel gma.

I had a thread on this somewhere where I posted my final results, let me look for it

EDIT: Here it is
Well, officially..

I got it to work with much better results.

I used what TroubleM mentioned, finally figured out HOW to do it.

I had to use MPC-HC with PowerDVD installed to get the decoder h264

I had to also have Haali Media Splitter

I added these two as external filters within MPC-HC and got it to work. It is downto ~ 80% cpu usage on average. Audio remains in sync and I am happy
