How do you make the picture supersize thing like eBay has?

Slightly off topic, when creating the auction listing and adding pics, if you choose the 'Your own web hosting', it gives an option "The description already includes a picture URL for my item.". What exactly does this do? If you don't add a picture URL in the box above it, but don't check that option, what's the difference? If you do select it, does it use one of your pics for the thumbnail shown when searching? If so, which pic?

Also if you use ebay's picture hosting service, it lets you add several different pics (for a fee after the first), but if you choose to use your own hosting, it only lets you choose one. Also I think ebay will resize that one pic and make it small, like it does if you use ebay's hosting service.
So you put the rest of your pics in the HTML. But you put your main picture in the 'your own hosting' box since that's the pic that will show up as a thumbnail when searching. But you also want it bigger than ebay sizes it to. So would the best thing to do be to put it both there and in the HTML?
