thanks...hopefully this experiment will turn out as a success unlike my past cooking experiences...

oh btw how hot should the stove be on?

medium.. let the butter melt first and then throw in the bread.
Butter should NOT be smoking or turning brown, if it is, remove pan from heat IMMediately.... a quick bubbling is good......

I always use butter. Every time I use margarine on the griddle, it turns brown/black and leaves a nasty greasy film all over my food.

A butter film is much better :)

My girlfriend makes the best french toast ever! She coats the bread in wattered down pancake batter, with extra spices added, then grills them until golden brown.

The best french toast is with a nice thick sliced soft sourdough bread. Not the real chewy sourdoughs because they won't soak up the eggs.

I've made it with banana in the batter and that's pretty good.
I always add vanilla and cream to the egg mixture.

You can also make baked french toast.
If you try that, you want to really let the bread soak up the egg mixture until it won't absorb anymore. And you need to use real thick slices. Like 1 inch thick. If you just lightly coat the bread, it will come out too dry.
Then you just put the slices in a glass dish and bake at 350 until the egg is set.

Oh, you should try it. I came across it accidentally when I got mustard from my sausage mixed with maple syrup. :D

And you say yuck? Mustard in NO WAY should EVER be used on french toast, pancakes, or most other breakfast foods.

Breakfast this morning was the BOMB!

3 pieces of french toast (batter: milk, eggs, and a little vanilla extract, bread: texas toast bread) coated w/ powdered sugar.
