I knew how to do it in Photoshop 6? I knew how to do it in Photoshop 5 but it appears to be different in 6. Isn't there a way to just select the color you want to make transparent and it'll be transparent?

Hasn't changed at all man, just turn the layer opacity down. Unless you want to add transparancy. In that case there are several ways to do that. One thing is to select what you want to keep and then drag it onto a new transparent canvas, or to select what you dont want and use the earaser to earase to transparency. I'm sure there is another way but i mostly self tought my 1337 skillz. IM me if have any other questions.

all the same dude. double click on your layer if u dont see an opacity % bar. Then select the option that lets you change the opacity level. Easy as that. Im assuming u want to make the layer see thru, or am i wrong?

If I understand you right, just cut out what you want to be transparent, and make a new layer, from "file -> new project, or new layer" or something like that, and instead of "white" choose transparent. Then drag and drop onto the new layer, and save it as a GIF. JPG doesnt work for some reason.
