I hate the placement of all the icons. All I want is the old menu bar (file, edit, view, favorites, tools, help), back, forward, refresh, stop, home and the address bar.

This default layout sucks.
 
Hit ALT and you get the menu bar. Go to view -> toolbars and you can make it always show up. I'm sure you can tweak a whole lot more too but I've not done much more than the toolbar thing to always have the menu bar.
