How do YOU make fruit salad?

Just made a big one.

We used:

3 cans of fruit cocktail(2 normal, one tropical), 2 cans of mandarin oranges, and 1 small can of crushed pineapple. To that we added:

3 bananas, sliced
2 large granny smith apples, cored, cut and chopped
2 tangerines, segmented
1 red pear, cored, cut and chopped
1 bartlett pear, cored, cut and chopped

2 packages of pistachio pudding
2 8oz tubs of Coolwhip
2 squirts lemon juice

Didn't follow any recipe or anything.

It was pretty good. We didn't drain the canned fruit enough, so it wasn't very fluffy... it was more like fruit pudding. We also should've used 1 more package of pistachio pudding; it was pretty coolwhip-ey.

Next time, I think we will add the package of pudding, and also add a couple handfulls of honey roasted sunflower seeds, maybe some sweetened shreded coconut, another banana and maybe another fruit. Grapes? Kiwi? Also maybe add a small lime, chopped up, instead of the lemon juice.

Oh.. Also must de-seed the tangerines. 😛

How do you guys do it?

Ahh, forgot to add.. It all cost about 12$, with fruit to spare at WinCo. 🙂

I don't know the amounts very well, this is just a guess....

1 can maderin oranges
1 can marachino cherries
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1 cup coconut
2 cups grapes
1 cup sliced banana
1 cup blueberries

14 cups (No idea here) whipped cream

Hmm. That would be.. berry-ey. 😉

My girlfriend doesen't like blueberries, or I would add them.

I definately think I'll add some coconut and grapes, and the sunflower seeds. Pecans rule, but they would raise the price of the concoction considerably.

Since we are talking about "fruits" I bought a box of clementines at the market yesterday and they are horrible. Small, but has pits and no sugar.. ( I had to sprinkle powder sugar on them) Man I should have stuck with Catalopes 🙂

I use fresh fruits. I use several varieties of apples, then bananas, oranges, pears, grapes, cranberries (if it's the holiday season), and maybe pineapples. I also mix in a bag of sliced almonds. I then mix a small container of half-n-half and sugar in a bowl and whip on medium speed until fluffy (almost like a merengue). It's so good people ask for it every year and I had one person invite me to their party because she said she liked my fruit salad so much 🙂
