A curry sauce can literally be anything you have together... in a pot. Saying "curry sauce" is also almost redundant. What type of curry dish are you looking to make? Googling will give you hundreds of recipes. There isn't a singular notion of what constitutes a curry dish.
I tried google, but it looks like the recipes are making curry from scratch which doesn't apply to me. I just want to make a curry chicken with onion dish that you'd find in most indian/thai restaurants.
Well, I make curry based dishes all the time with my Indian buddies, and most of them use a powder as the base and add everything else: cloves, onions, tomato, potato sometimes, coriander, cumin, turmeric, ginger, chilis (they like it HOT), etc.
Googling turned up this recipe. This is pretty close to what I make, but again, there's no single recipe. Put in what you like

Being an American, my tastes are a little different. I like cinnamon, ginger, clove, coriander seed and cilantro in my curry dishes. Those are the basic ingredients. I also put in yogurt because I like a thicker consistency.
Experiment and have fun!
