how do you make a .reg file?

I have MOHAA installed right now but I have seemingly lost my MOH disc 1. Where this is really screwy is that i need to reformat my system because of an unresolvable soundcard issue. Obviously however I can't reinstall w/out that disc. So what I'm looking to do is backup my install to a few CDs and create a .reg file for it so it can function OK. Is this as simple as opening a text editor, typing in the right stuff and then just saving it as a .reg file? Any help is very appreciated here....

If you go to start-->run and then type in "regedit" it'll pull up the registry editor. From there you can go to the file menu and export a copy of your registry. You can just load that file up after reformating.
